Thai yoga massage is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor on a futon mat, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as "nuat phaen boran", literally, the ancient-manner massage.

In Thailand, Thai massage is one of the branches of Thai traditional medicine (TTM), now recognized and regulated by the government, and is widely considered to be a medical discipline used for the treatment of a wide variety of ailments.

It can be done solo or in a group of a dozen or so patients in the same large room. The receiver is put into many yoga-like positions during the course of the massage. The massage practitioner leans on the recipient's body using hands and usually straight forearms locked at the elbow to apply firm rhythmic pressure. The massage generally follows the Sen lines on the body — somewhat analogous to meridians or Channel (Chinese medicine) and Indian nadis. Legs and feet of the giver can be used to fixate the body or limbs of the recipient. In other positions, hands fixate the body, while the feet do the massaging action. A full Thai massage session typically lasts two hours, and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body; this may include pulling fingers, toes, ears, cracking the knuckles, massaging the recipient's back with the feet, and arching the recipient's into bhujangasana (or cobra position). There is a standard procedure and rhythm to this massage. The Thai massage practiced at Jai Dee Youga and Wellness Studio includes Southern and Northern Style Thai Massage techniques.

With a Relaxation Massage, relaxing you is the only aim. For this reason, it is one of the most complete and indulgent massages you can have.

Definitions vary, but a relaxation massage is usually a full-body therapeutic treatment involving soft music, soft lighting and aromatherapy oils. You will have a long, luxurious massage which will use various techniques including long strokes, gentle kneading and rolling of the skin and muscle, and perhaps some rhythmic rocking from side to side.

Relaxation massage is a passive treatment. You probably won't be stretched or maneuvered into any yoga-like positions. This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled.

A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will leave you beaming with a sense of wellbeing. Relaxation massage achieves this because of the general benefits of massage: it improves your circulation so your organs and skin get more oxygen, and helps moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A relaxation massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of its toxins. It will help you to sleep better, release tight muscles, soothe aches and pains, and encourage the release of oxytocin , a hormone associated with contentment.

Swedish massage is done on a massage table and is a full-body therapeutic massage. Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are sliding or
gliding, kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction, and vibration or gentle shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be
helpful in individuals with poor circulation. Swedish massage is often referred to as "classic massage".

The strokes and manipulations of Swedish Massage are each conceived as having a specific therapeutic benefit. One of the primary goals of Swedish Massage is to speed venous return from the extremities. Swedish Massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissue of lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It improves circulation without increasing heart load. It stretches the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple.

Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management. It also has specific clinical uses in a medical or remedial therapy.

Prenatal Massage

Therapist: Elena Bowen, LMT, RYT MA49885

Prenatal Massage requires speciality massage training and it focuses on the mother-to-be as she goes through the changes due to pregnancy. This is not a replacement for medical care, but rather as an adjunct to aid in the health and rapid recovery of the mother. Certified therapists will focus treatment on the concerns of each trimester. After the mother has given birth, treatment will assist in restoring the body back to its normal condition. Prenatal massage may also help reduce and/or eliminate excess water retention. Prenatal massage is fast growing in the United States and around the entire globes as it has attracted the interest of labor and delivery nurses, nursemidwives, childbirth educators and obstetricians. Massage therapy enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue.

Oncology Massage

Therapist: Bari Ruck, LMT MA55190

Oncology massage is a way of providing extra care to cancer patients on their journey back to good health. Research has shown that cancer patients do in fact benefit from the therapeutic effects of massage therapy. Oncology massage can also be applied to the patient during any stage of their cancer treatment, including when first diagnosed or when on the road to recovery. Oncology massage is used as a way of helping cancer patients cope with their many symptoms. It can be helpful in relieving symptoms - such as fatigue, muscle aches and tension, pain, and insomnia. As well, it is beneficial for helping patients cope with emotional problems - such as depression, stress, anxiety, loneliness, and fear. Also, instead of only alleviating the negative symptoms, massage therapy is also helpful in promoting positive characteristics such as improved self-image and concentration. Oncology massage can improve the effectiveness of the various cancer treatments including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and physical therapy. Oncology massage is used in hopes that the nurturing touch of massage will connect with the soul and give the patient an
attitude filled with hope and courage.
