Is there such a thing as Too Much Yoga?

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

Yoga has been known to bring about a plethora of health benefits, including increased flexibility, increased muscle strength, improved respiration, and stress reduction. But can you do too much yoga?

Yoga's sister science, Ayurveda, speaks of everything in balance. Too much of anything can disrupt your natural homeostasis. Instead, Ayurveda encourages to seek the opposite of what you're indulging in, since like increases like.

Something that can help get the most out of your practice without burning out or causing injury is to incorporate different styles of yoga. If you love Power and Vinyasa, it's not conducive to be doing that more than a few times a week. Mix it up with some Yin or restorative to allow your body to rest and stretch in different ways.

Not sure where to start? Jai Dee Yoga & Wellness hosts a variety of classes and styles that can suit your needs. If you're looking for a well-rounded schedule, I encourage the following:

Sunday Serenity 6PM - Start your week with slow, mindful movement and meditation to set yourself up for success!

Monday - Vinyasa at 6PM - Build strength and stability safely as you move through different postures.

Tuesday - Yin at 7:15PM - Melt into that connective tissue and meditative mind with longer holds and support of props.

Wednesday - Vinyasa with Essential Oils at 6PM - Link breath to movement as you find your stability and ease in this all levels flow.

Thursday - Chakra Flow at 7:15PM - Activate your internal energy flow using chakra-specific poses/flow and yogic breathing.

Friday - Slow Flow Yoga at 10:30AM - Round it out with some juicy slower movements and breath awareness.

Saturday - All Levels Hatha at 10:30AM - Stretch and strengthen the body gradually in this calm, stress-reducing class.

Remember, you are the expert of your own body. Yoga can help bring about self-awareness, and it gives you the opportunity to listen to what is needed so you can stay in balance.
